Beware! These Australian Creatures Bite!

Deadly Australian Creatures

We recently came across this great infographic about Australian wildlife and the number of deaths they cause each year. So many people (especially people who aren’t from Australia) are unjustifiably scared of spiders, snakes and sharks. Are they really killing that many people here? Take a look for yourself. Spiders haven’t killed anyone in Australia since the 1970s and sharks only kill on average one person in Australian waters a year. You’re more likely to die from falling off a chairlift, or being allergic to your own pet (actually we just made that up but it’s probably true!)

Don’t spend your life living in fear of Australian’s beautiful fauna. Almost all of the time these beautiful creatures are more scared of you than you are of them. Crocodiles may be an exception to this but even they only kill on average around one person a year. The biggest killers on the list are actually snakes, a common Australian pest. This isn’t really surprising considering Australia is home to 21 out of the 25 most venomous snakes on the planet. So make sure you know what to do if you come across one! Take a look at the infographic below and you can see for yourself just how little impact Australian wildlife has on the life expectancy of the average Australian (or tourists to to our great brown land).

Some omissions from this infographic that would would add would be wasps and bees. Wasps and bees kill quite a lot of people each year, mainly due to people being allergic to their stings. In fact you’re more likely to die from wasp or bee stings than any of the aforementioned “predators” combined. Keep that in mind someone is telling a scary story about sharks, snakes or spiders. The fact is, most of these creatures are just misunderstood, they usually only kill to eat and survive – which is more than what can be said for human kind.

The team here at PCNB can’t help you with crocodile or drop bear removal, but we can help you with snakes, spiders, possums and other general household pests.
